Pennsic Day 2 Tuesday
There was a lot of rain and a bit of wind overnight but the rain fly did us well. I kept the doors on screen only so we could have some ventilation.
This resulted in a few big drops landing on my face from time to time. I was relying on the rain fly overhang but retreated to relying on my waterproof cloak by 5 am.
That did the trick.
We had some wet shoes and puddles in chairs but over all our prep from the night before stood us in good stead.

We had rain showers on and off until lunch time but we proceeded as planned. I took some great classes.
The first one was a weed walk. A personable and knowledgeable man lead a walk around the campsites and pointed out plants.
We talked about edibility and utility and then talked quite a lot about poison ivy.
The rest of the classes today were Asian in flavor. I took one on Korean food before 1700 with Meg and one on cloudwork lacquer in the Western Han dynasty.
We took a Walmart run for more food and ice and important shorts to make all this walking in skirts more pleasant.
In the evening I went to the merchant area and saw so much cool stuff.
If I were rich I would buy thousands of dollars worth of things.
It’s a lot like the renaissance fair back in Maryland but there’s a much more practical and usable focus. The armor has to be able to take a hit, the tunic often matches historical finds rather than movie props, the ironworks is meant to be used.
But like with our Renaissance Fair it’s just stacked with super talented craftspeople.
Historical reimaginings and recreations were my favorites.
It’s worth enlarging that top pic to read the sign.
At dinner time we went to the food court and heard this great busker.
We used our orange Pennsic mugs again throughout the day and have definitely gotten our monies worth from them by now.
I wore another apron dress today and felt happy and vikingesque.

After dark we played cards and recorder and I unfortunately ate a lightning bug.
Ha the joys of camping.
Also unfortunately Kiernan isn’t feeling tip top.
I’m hoping he’ll feel better tomorrow after a good nights sleep.
